Psalms 144

 

This psalm is made up almost entirely of verses from other earlier psalms, making it possible that it is post-Davidic in its origin.

לְדָוִד בָּרוּךְ יְהוָה צוּרִי הַמְלַמֵּד יָדַי לַקְרָב אֶצְבְּעוֹתַי לַמִּלְחָמָה׃   144:1

Psal. 144:1   David's:

                        Blessed is the Lord, my Rock,

                                the Teacher of my hands for war,

                        of my fingers for battle,

חַסְדִּי וּמְצוּדָתִי מִשְׂגַּבִּי וּמְפַלְטִי לִי מָגִנִּי וּבוֹ חָסִיתִי הָרוֹדֵד עַמִּי תַחְתָּי׃   144:2

Psal. 144:2   my Faithful One and my Fortress,

                                my High Tower and my Deliverer,

                         a Shield for me,

                                and in Him I put my trust,

                          the Subduer of my people under me.

יְהוָה מָה־אָדָם וַתֵּדָעֵהוּ בֶּן־אֱנוֹשׁ וַתְּחַשְּׁבֵהוּ׃   144:3

Psal. 144:3   Lord, what is a man that You acknowledge him,

                                the son of a man that You are mindful of him?

אָדָם לַהֶבֶל דָּמָה יָמָיו כְּצֵל עוֹבֵר׃   144:4

Psal. 144:4   A man is comparable to a breath,

                                his days are like a passing shadow.

יְהוָה הַט־שָׁמֶיךָ וְתֵרֵד גַּע בֶּהָרִים וְיֶעֱשָׁנוּ׃   144:5

Psal. 144:5   Lord!  Incline Your heavens, that You may descend.

                                 Reach to the mountains, that they may fume.

בְּרוֹק בָּרָק וּתְפִיצֵם שְׁלַח חִצֶּיךָ וּתְהֻמֵּם׃   144:6

Psal. 144:6   Cast forth lightning that You might scatter them;

                                send out Your arrows, that You might trouble them.

שְׁלַח יָדֶיךָ מִמָּרוֹם פְּצֵנִי וְהַצִּילֵנִי מִמַּיִם רַבִּים מִיַּד בְּנֵי נֵכָר׃   144:7

Psal. 144:7   Stretch forth Your "hands" from on high,

                                snatch me away and rescue me from great waters,

                        from the hand of foreigners,

אֲשֶׁר פִּיהֶם דִּבֶּר־שָׁוְא וִימִינָם יְמִין שָׁקֶר׃   144:8

Psal. 144:8   whose mouth speaks falsehood,

                                and their right hand is a lying right hand.

אֱלֹהִים שִׁיר חָדָשׁ אָשִׁירָה לָּךְ בְּנֵבֶל עָשׂוֹר אֲזַמְּרָה־לָּךְ׃   144:9

Psal. 144:9   God, a new song I will sing to You.

                                With a ten-stringed lute I will sing praise to You,

הַנּוֹתֵן תְּשׁוּעָה לַמְּלָכִים הַפּוֹצֶה אֶת־דָּוִד עַבְדּוֹ מֵחֶרֶב רָעָה׃   144:10

Psal. 144:10   the Grantor of salvation to kings,

                                Who snatches away David, His servant, from the evil sword.

פְּצֵנִי וְהַצִּילֵנִי מִיַּד בְּנֵי־נֵכָר אֲשֶׁר פִּיהֶם דִּבֶּר־שָׁוְא וִימִינָם יְמִין שָׁקֶר׃   144:11

Psal. 144:11   Snatch me away and deliver me from the hand of foreigners

                                whose mouth speaks falsehood,

                           and their right hand is a lying right hand.

אֲשֶׁר בָּנֵינוּ כִּנְטִעִים מְגֻדָּלִים בִּנְעוּרֵיהֶם בְּנוֹתֵינוּ כְזָוִיֹּת מְחֻטָּבוֹת תַּבְנִית הֵיכָל׃  144:12

Psal. 144:12   As our sons are like vigorous plants in their young days,

                                our daughters like carved corners of the form of a palace,

מְזָוֵינוּ מְלֵאִים מְפִיקִים מִזַּן אֶל־זַן צֹאונֵנוּ מַאֲלִיפוֹת מְרֻבָּבוֹת בְּחוּצוֹתֵינוּ׃   144:13

Psal. 144:13   our full granaries furnishing of every variety,

                                our sheep bringing forth thousands,

                          even ten thousands, in our outer areas,

אַלּוּפֵינוּ מְסֻבָּלִים אֵין־פֶּרֶץ וְאֵין יוֹצֵאת וְאֵין צְוָחָה בִּרְחֹבֹתֵינוּ׃   144:14

Psal. 144:14   our oxen loaded, without a breach,

                                and without going forth,

                          and without any outcry in our plazas!

אַשְׁרֵי הָעָם שֶׁכָּכָה לּוֹ אַשְׁרֵי הָעָם שֶׁיֲהוָה אֱלֹהָיו׃   144:15

Psal. 144:15   Happy is the people that thus is its situation;

                                happy is the people that is of the Lord, its God.
