1Chr. 17:1   And Jehoshaphat, his son, became king in his place, and he strengthened himself against Israel.

The first part of this verse is contained in 1Kin. 15:24, but none of the verses or names in the rest of this chapter, except for one name mentioned in v. 17:8, is to be found elsewhere.

1Chr. 17:2   And he set a force in all the cities of Judah that were fortified, and put garrisons throughout the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa, his father, had taken.

1Chr. 17:3   And the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, for he proceeded in the ways of David, his former ancestor, and not did resort to the Baalim,

1Chr. 17:4   but resorted to the God of his ancestors and walked in His commandments and not as Israel was doing.

1Chr. 17:5   Therefore the Lord made the kingdom so firm in his hand that Jehoshaphat provided a gift for all of Judah and there was wealth and honor in abundance for him.

1Chr. 17:6   And his heart was so lofty in the ways of the Lord that he again removed the high places and the Asherim from Judah.

1Chr. 17:7   Then in his reign's third year he sent for his princes, for Ben-Hail, and for Obadiah, and for Zechariah, and for Nethanel, and for Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.

1Chr. 17:8   And the Levites were with them: Shemaiah and Nethaniah and Zebadiah and Asahel and Shemiramoth and Jehonathan and Adonijah and Tobijah and Tob-adonijah of the Levites.  Elishama and Jehoram, the priests, were also with them.

The word in the parentheses, translated as the name Shemiramoth, is assumed to be misspelled.  The name appears also in 1Chronicles Chapters 15 and 16 and is spelled correctly there, as in the brackets here.

1Chr. 17:9   And they taught throughout Judah, and the book of the Torah of the Lord was with them.  And they went around in all the cities of Judah and taught among the people.

1Chr. 17:10   And the dread of the Lord was upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were surrounding Judah that they waged no war with Jehoshaphat.

1Chr. 17:11   Some Philistines even were bringing a gift and silver tribute to Jehoshaphat.  The Arabians were also bringing a flock of seven thousand and seven hundred rams and seven thousand and seven hundred he-goats to him.

1Chr. 17:12   So Jehoshaphat became greater and greater to the maximum, and he built fortresses and cities of storehouses throughout Judah.

1Chr. 17:13   And he had great work in the cities of Judah, and men of war, mighty men of valor, in Jerusalem.

1Chr. 17:14   And this is their mustering according to the house of their fathers of Judah's captains of thousands:  Adenah, who was a captain, and with him were three hundred thousand mighty men of valor,

1Chr. 17:15   and next to him Jehohanan, who was a captain, and with him were two hundred and eighty thousand,

1Chr. 17:16   and next to him Amasiah son of Zichri, a mighty man of valor, offering himself willingly to the Lord, and with him were two hundred thousand,

1Chr. 17:17   and from Benjamin, Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him were two hundred thousand handlers of bow and shield,

1Chr. 17:18   and next to him Jehozabad, and with him were a hundred and eighty thousand armed men of war.

1Chr. 17:19   These were serving beside the king whom the king had put in the cities of fortification throughout all of Judah.
