Levi. 3:13  “And he shall lay his hand on its head and slaughter it before the tent of meeting, and the sons of Aaron shall dash its blood against the altar all around.”

Notice that once more we have an almost exact replica of a previous verse, v. 3:8, with a variation in two words.

Levi. 3:15  and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them that is by the loins; and the protrusion over the liver by the kidneys, he shall remove it.”

Levi. 3:16  “And the priest shall make them smoke on the altar, food of the fire offering, for a sweet scent.  All the fat is for the Lord.”

Levi. 3:17  “It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations in all the places you will dwell:  You shall not eat any fat or any blood.”

This chapter ends with an important law.  We are prohibited from eating fat or blood.  However, we will find that Levi. 7:23 to 7:25 clarify the application of this law.  It is only applicable to the fat of animals that could have been offered to the Lord.  The law would not apply to most fish, since they generally have neither fat nor blood, and are not offered for sacrifice.  The second person pronouns in this verse are all plural, signifying to me that we are each individually responsible for fulfilling this commandment.                                                [Return to Levi. 7:25]

Torah Commandments in this Chapter

119. The procedures for a peace offering shall be followed.    V. 3:1 - 3:16

120. You shall not eat the fat of an animal that could have been offered

         in sacrifice.    V. 3:17 (and Levi. 7:23 to 7:25)
