1Chronicles 17

Much of this chapter can be found also in 2Samuel Chapter 7, with minor variations.

1Chr. 17:1   And it was as David was dwelling in his house that David said to Nathan, the prophet, “Behold, I am dwelling in a house of cedars while the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under curtains.”

1Chr. 17:2   And Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.”

1Chr. 17:3   And it was in that night that a word of God occurred to Nathan saying,

1Chr. 17:4   “Go, and you shall say to David, My servant, ‘Thus says the Lord:  ‘You will not build the house for Me to dwell.’”

1Chr. 17:5   “For I have not dwelled in a house from the day that I brought Israel up until this day, but have been from tent to tent, or from Tabernacle.”

1Chr. 17:6   “Everywhere I have walked about with all of Israel did I speak the word with each of the judges of Israel whom I had commanded to tend My people, saying, ‘Why have you not built a house of cedar for Me?”

1Chr. 17:7   “So now you shall say thus to My servant, to David:  ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts:  ‘I took you from the pasture from following the sheep, to be a prince over My people, Israel,

1Chr. 17:8   and I have been with you everywhere that you have gone, and have cut down all your enemies from before you, and I will make a name for you like the name of the greatest ones who are on the earth.’

1Chr. 17:9   ‘And I will make a place for My people, Israel, and plant it that it can dwell in its place and not be disquieted again and the children of evil will not continue to wear it out as at first

1Chr. 17:10   and during the days when I commanded judges over My people, Israel, as I will subdue all your enemies.  And I declare to you that the Lord will build a house for you.’

1Chr. 17:11   ‘And it shall be, when your days are fulfilled, to go to be with your fathers, that I will raise up your seed after you, who will be from your sons, and I will make his kingdom firm,

1Chr. 17:12   so he can build a house for Me, as I will establish his throne forever.’

See my remarks concerning this prophecy at 2Sam. 7:13.

1Chr. 17:13   ‘I shall be as a Father to him and he shall be as a son to Me, and I shall not remove My mercy from him as I had removed from he who was before you.’

1Chr. 17:14   ‘And I will make him stand firm in My house and in My kingdom forever, and his throne will be established forever.’”

1Chr. 17:15   Then Nathan spoke according to all these words and according to all this vision to David.

1Chr. 17:16   And the king -- David -- went in and sat before the Lord, and he said, “Who am I, Lord, God, and who is of my house that You have brought me this far?”

1Chr. 17:17   “While this is so insignificant in Your eyes, God, yet You speak about the house of Your servant being for a long time, so You must regard me according to the manner of an exceptional man, O Lord, God.”

1Chr. 17:18   “What more can David yet add to You for honoring Your servant, as You know Your servant.”

1Chr. 17:19   “Lord, for the sake of Your servant, and according to Your ‘heart,’ You have produced all this greatness, declaring all such great things.”

1Chr. 17:20   “Lord, there is none like You and there is no god beside You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.”

1Chr. 17:21   “And who is like Your people, Israel, a nation unique on the earth, whose God came to redeem a people for Himself, to make for Yourself a name of great and awesome acts to drive out nations from before Your people whom You redeemed from Egypt?”

1Chr. 17:22   “And You consecrated Your people, Israel, for Yourself as a people forever, and You, Lord, are as God for them.”

1Chr. 17:23   “And now, Lord, let the word that You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house be established forever, and let be done as You have spoken,

1Chr. 17:24   so it is confirmed that Your name is magnified forever, it being said, ‘The Lord of hosts, God of Israel, is Israel's God,’ and the house of David, Your servant, is established before You.”

1Chr. 17:25   “For You, my God, has opened the ear of Your servant to be building his house.  Therefore Your servant has attained to pray before You.”

1Chr. 17:26   “So now, Lord, You are He Who is God, and You have spoken this good thing concerning Your servant.”

1Chr. 17:27   “And now You are pleased to bless the house of Your servant to be forever before You.  When You bless, Lord, then the blessing is everlasting.”
