Psalms 70

 

לַמְנַצֵּחַ לְדָוִד לְהַזְכִּיר׃   70:1

Psal. 70:1   For David's leader, to be remembered:

The next five verses of this psalm are similar, with a few exceptions, to those in Psal. 40:14 to 18.  No one really knows what was intended.  The lines were not directly copied, for there are a few differences.  Someone may have borrowed the lines without having the original to copy from.  It may have been composed from memory, hence the phrase in the superscription, to be remembered.

אֱלֹהִים לְהַצִּילֵנִי יְהוָה לְעֶזְרָתִי חוּשָׁה׃   70:2

Psal. 70:2   O God, hasten to deliver me,

                                 O Lord, to be my Help.

יֵבֹשׁוּ וְיַחְפְּרוּ מְבַקְשֵׁי נַפְשִׁי יִסֹּגוּ אָחוֹר וְיִכָּלְמוּ חֲפֵצֵי רָעָתִי׃   70:3

Psal. 70:3   Let the seekers of my soul be ashamed and embarrassed,

                                 let the desirers of my injury be turned backward and made confused.

יָשׁוּבוּ עַל־עֵקֶב בָּשְׁתָּם הָאֹמְרִים הֶאָח הֶאָח׃   70:4

Psal. 70:4   Let those saying, “Aha, aha,” turn back because of their shame.

יָשִׂישׂוּ וְיִשְׂמְחוּ בְּךָ כָּל־מְבַקְשֶׁיךָ וְיֹאמְרוּ תָמִיד יִגְדַּל אֱלֹהִים אֹהֲבֵי יְשׁוּעָתֶךָ׃   70:5

Psal. 70:5   Let all seeking You rejoice and be glad in You,

                                 and let the lovers of Your salvation say continually, “Let God be magnified.”

וַאֲנִי עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹן אֱלֹהִים חוּשָׁה־לִּי עֶזְרִי וּמְפַלְטִי אַתָּה יְהוָה אַל־תְּאַחַר׃   70:6

Psal. 70:6   And I am wretched and needy;

                                O God, hasten to me;

                      You are my Help and my Deliverer;

                                O Lord, do not delay.
