וַיְהִי מִיָּמִים רַבִּים אַחֲרֵי אֲשֶׁר־הֵנִיחַ יְהוָה לְיִשְׂרָאֵל מִכָּל־אֹיְבֵיהֶם מִסָּבִיב וִיהוֹשֻׁעַ זָקֵן בָּא בַּיָּמִים׃  23:1

Josh. 23:1   And it was, out of many days after when the Lord had given rest to Israel from their enemies from the surroundings, and Joshua was old, he had come with days,

וַיִּקְרָא יְהוֹשֻׁעַ לְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵל לִזְקֵנָיו וּלְרָאשָׁיו וּלְשֹׁפְטָיו וּלְשֹׁטְרָיו וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם אֲנִי זָקַנְתִּי בָּאתִי   23:2

בַּיָּמִים׃

Josh. 23:2   that Joshua called for all Israel, for its elders and for its heads, and for its judges and for its officers, and said to them, “I have become old, come with days,

וְאַתֶּם רְאִיתֶם אֵת כָּל־אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם לְכָל־הַגּוֹיִם הָאֵלֶּה מִפְּנֵיכֶם כִּי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם   23:3

הוּא הַנִּלְחָם לָכֶם׃

Josh. 23:3   and you have seen all that the Lord, your God, has done to all these nations because of you, for the Lord, your God, is the One Who has fought for you.”

רְאוּ הִפַּלְתִּי לָכֶם אֶת־הַגּוֹיִם הַנִּשְׁאָרִים הָאֵלֶּה בְּנַחֲלָה לְשִׁבְטֵיכֶם מִן־הַיַּרְדֵּן וְכָל־הַגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר   23:4

הִכְרַתִּי וְהַיָּם הַגָּדוֹל מְבוֹא הַשָּׁמֶשׁ׃

Josh. 23:4   “Behold, I have allotted to you these remaining nations, along with all the nations that I had destroyed, as an inheritance according to your tribes between the Jordan and the Great Sea of the setting of the sun.”

Joshua is talking here about the pagans that continued to dwell in the land of Israel.

וַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם הוּא יֶהְדֳּפֵם מִפְּנֵיכֶם וְהוֹרִישׁ אֹתָם מִלִּפְנֵיכֶם וִירִשְׁתֶּם אֶת־אַרְצָם כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר   23:5

יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם לָכֶם׃

Josh. 23:5  “And the Lord your God, He will expel them from before you and dispossess them from before you, and you will possess their land, as the Lord, your God, has spoken to you.”

וַחֲזַקְתֶּם מְאֹד לִשְׁמֹר וְלַעֲשׂוֹת אֵת כָּל־הַכָּתוּב בְּסֵפֶר תּוֹרַת מֹשֶׁה לְבִלְתִּי סוּר־מִמֶּנּוּ יָמִין וּשְׂמֹאול׃   23:6

Josh. 23:6   “So be very courageous to keep and to do all that is written on the scroll of the law of Moses, to not turn from it to the right or to the left,

לְבִלְתִּי־בוֹא בַּגּוֹיִם הָאֵלֶּה הַנִּשְׁאָרִים הָאֵלֶּה אִתְּכֶם וּבְשֵׁם אֱלֹהֵיהֶם לֹא־תַזְכִּירוּ וְלֹא תַשְׁבִּיעוּ   23:7

וְלֹא תַעַבְדוּם וְלֹא תִשְׁתַּחֲווּ לָהֶם׃

Josh. 23:7   to not come in to those nations, those remaining with you, and you shall not be mindful and not make to swear in the names of their gods, and you shall not serve them, and you shall not bow down to them,

כִּי אִם־בַּיהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם תִּדְבָּקוּ כַּאֲשֶׁר עֲשִׂיתֶם עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה׃   23:8

Josh. 23:8   but if you are joined with the Lord your God as you have been up to this day,

וַיּוֹרֶשׁ יְהוָה מִפְּנֵיכֶם גּוֹיִם גְּדֹלִים וַעֲצוּמִים וְאַתֶּם לֹא־עָמַד אִישׁ בִּפְנֵיכֶם עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה׃   23:9

Josh. 23:9   that the Lord has driven out nations greater and mightier than you from before you, no man has stood against you up to this day,

אִישׁ־אֶחָד מִכֶּם יִרְדָּף־אָלֶף כִּי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם הוּא הַנִּלְחָם לָכֶם כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר לָכֶם׃   23:10

Josh. 23:10   one man of you shall chase a thousand, for the Lord, your God, fights for you, as He spoke to you.”

וְנִשְׁמַרְתֶּם מְאֹד לְנַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם לְאַהֲבָה אֶת־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם׃   23:11

Josh. 23:11   “So you shall take good heed to yourselves to love the Lord, your God.”

כִּי אִם־שׁוֹב תָּשׁוּבוּ וּדְבַקְתֶּם בְּיֶתֶר הַגּוֹיִם הָאֵלֶּה הַנִּשְׁאָרִים הָאֵלֶּה אִתְּכֶם וְהִתְחַתַּנְתֶּם בָּהֶם   23:12

וּבָאתֶם בָּהֶם וְהֵם בָּכֶם׃

Josh. 23:12   “For if you turn in any way and join with the remnant of these nations, those who are left with you, and marry with them and go into them, and they into you,

יָדוֹעַ תֵּדְעוּ כִּי לֹא יוֹסִיף יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם לְהוֹרִישׁ אֶת־הַגּוֹיִם הָאֵלֶּה מִלִּפְנֵיכֶם וְהָיוּ לָכֶם לְפַח   23:13

וּלְמוֹקֵשׁ וּלְשֹׁטֵט בְּצִדֵּיכֶם וְלִצְנִנִים בְּעֵינֵיכֶם עַד־אֲבָדְכֶם מֵעַל הָאֲדָמָה הַטּוֹבָה הַזֹּאת אֲשֶׁר נָתַן

לָכֶם יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם׃

Josh. 23:13   for sure you may know that the Lord, your God, will not continue to drive out those nations from before you, but they will become for a snare for you, and for a trap and for a scourge in your side, and for thorns in your eyes, until your destruction from off this good land that the Lord, your God, has given to you.”

וְהִנֵּה אָנֹכִי הוֹלֵךְ הַיּוֹם בְּדֶרֶךְ כָּל־הָאָרֶץ וִידַעְתֶּם בְּכָל־לְבַבְכֶם וּבְכָל־נַפְשְׁכֶם כִּי לֹא־נָפַל דָּבָר   23:14

אֶחָד מִכֹּל הַדְּבָרִים הַטּוֹבִים אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם עֲלֵיכֶם הַכֹּל בָּאוּ לָכֶם לֹא־נָפַל מִמֶּנּו דָּבָר אֶחָד׃ּ

Josh. 23:14   “Now behold, I go today in the way of all the earth; so consider with all your heart and with all your soul how not one thing has failed from all the good things that the Lord your God promised about you; all have come to pass for you; not one thing has failed from them.”

וְהָיָה כַּאֲשֶׁר־בָּא עֲלֵיכֶם כָּל־הַדָּבָר הַטּוֹב אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם אֲלֵיכֶם כֵּן יָבִיא יְהוָה עֲלֵיכֶם   23:15

אֵת כָּל־הַדָּבָר הָרָע עַד־הַשְׁמִידוֹ אוֹתְכֶם מֵעַל הָאֲדָמָה הַטּוֹבָה הַזֹּאת אֲשֶׁר נָתַן לָכֶם יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם׃

Josh. 23:15   “And it shall be, as every good thing has come upon you that the Lord your God spoke to you, so the Lord will bring upon you every evil thing until His destruction of you from off this good land that the Lord, your God, has given to you.”

בְּעָבְרְכֶם אֶת־בְּרִית יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה אֶתְכֶם וַהֲלַכְתֶּם וַעֲבַדְתֶּם אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים   23:16

וְהִשְׁתַּחֲוִיתֶם לָהֶם וְחָרָה אַף־יְהוָה בָּכֶם וַאֲבַדְתֶּם מְהֵרָה מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ הַטּוֹבָה אֲשֶׁר נָתַן לָכֶם׃

Josh. 23:16   “When you transgress the covenant of the Lord, your God, with which He charged you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the ‘fury’ of the Lord shall burn against you and you shall perish quickly from off the good land that He has given to you.”
