Jeremiah 16

Jere. 16:1   And the word of the Lord occurred to me saying,

Jere. 16:2   “You may not take a wife for yourself, that there should not be sons or daughters for you in this place.”

Jere. 16:3   For thus says the Lord about the sons and about the daughters who are born in this place, and about the mothers who bear them, and their fathers who beget them in this land:

Jere. 16:4   “Of grievous diseases they shall die.

                              They shall not be lamented

and they shall not be buried.

                              For they shall be dung

on the surface of the ground.

And by sword and by famine

                      they shall perish.

                              And their carcasses shall be

for meat for the birds of the sky

and the beasts of the earth.”

Jere. 16:5   For thus says the Lord: “Do not enter the house of mourning, and do not go to lament, and do not show compassion for them, for I have removed My peace from this people,” declares the Lord, “mercy and compassion.”

Jere. 16:6   “Both the great and the small shall die in this land; They shall not be buried, and they shall not lament for them, and one shall not cut himself or make himself bald for them.”

Jere. 16:7   “And they shall not break bread for them on behalf of mourning to show one's sorrow over death, and they shall not offer them the cup of consolation for one's father or mother.”

Jere. 16:8   “And you may not enter a house of feasting to sit with them to eat or to drink.”

Jere. 16:9   For thus says the Lord of hosts, God of Israel:

“Behold, from this place, for your eyes and in your time,

                                I am putting an end

to the sound of gladness and the sound of mirth,

                                the voice of the bridegroom

and the voice of the bride.”

Jere. 16:10   “And it shall be, when you announce all these things to this people and they say to you, ‘Why has the Lord pronounced all this great misery against us,’ or ‘what is our iniquity,’ or ‘what are our sins that we have committed against the Lord our God?’

Jere. 16:11   then you say to them, ‘For the reason that your fathers have forsaken Me,’ declares the Lord, ‘and have gone after other gods and served them and bowed down to them, and they abandoned Me and they did not keep My Torah;

Jere. 16:12   and, your sinfulness, you are doing more than your fathers, and behold, you are walking, each one, after the stubbornness of his own wicked heart, in order not to listen to Me.’

Jere. 16:13   ‘So I am casting you out from this land to a land that you do not know, you or your fathers, and there you shall serve other gods day and night, because I will not grant any favor to you.’”

Jere. 16:14   ‘That being so, behold, the time is coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when it will not be said any more:  ‘The Lord Who brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt is alive,’

Jere. 16:15   but rather ‘the Lord is alive Who brings out the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands that He had thrust them there,’ then I shall return them to their soil that I had given to their fathers.’

Jere. 16:16   ‘Behold, I am sending for many fishermen,’ declares the Lord, ‘and they will catch them. Then after this, I shall send for an abundance of hunters and they shall hunt them from atop every mountain and from atop every hill and from the clefts of rocks.’

An error is found in the word in parentheses.  The vav should be a yad.  The correction is in the brackets.

Jere. 16:17   ‘For My gaze is upon all their ways.

                               They are not hidden from My presence;

                       neither is their iniquity hidden

                                from before My gaze.’

Jere. 16:18   ‘Now I shall first repay their iniquity double

                                 and their sin,

because of their profaning My land.

                                They have filled My inheritance

with the carcasses of their detestable things

                                 and their abominations.’”

Jere. 16:19   O Lord, my Strength and my Stronghold

and my Refuge in time of distress,

the nations shall come to You

from the ends of the earth,

                         and they shall say,

“Our fathers have embraced only lies,

vanity, and things from which there is no profit.”

Jere. 16:20   May a man make gods for himself

                                 that they are not gods?

Jere. 16:21   “That being so, behold,

                                  I am teaching them;

this time I will have them know

                                 My power and My might,

                        and they shall know

that My name is The Lord.”
