Ezekiel 35

Ezek. 35:1   And the word of the Lord occurred to me saying,

Ezek. 35:2   “Human, set your face toward mount Seir and prophesy about it.”

Mount Seir is Edom, and the Edomites are the descendants of Esau (see Gene. 36:8).  Edom is considered Israel’s arch enemy because of the destructive competition between Esau and Jacob centuries earlier.

Ezek. 35:3   “And you shall say to it, ‘Thus says the Master, the Lord:  Behold, I am against you, mount Seir, and will stretch forth My ‘hand’ over you and make you a desolation and a devastation.’

Ezek. 35:4   ‘I shall make your cities a wasteland and you shall be desolate, and you shall know that I am the Lord.’

Ezek. 35:5   ‘Because of having your hatred of old and you thrust down the children of Israel upon the wielders of the sword in the time of their calamity, at the time of the end of iniquity,

Regarding the last phrase, see Ezek. 21:30.

Ezek. 35:6   for this, as I live, declares the Master, the Lord, I will prepare you only for blood that blood will pursue you.  Surely you hated the blood, so the blood shall pursue you.’

Ezek. 35:7   ‘So I will make mount Seir for a desolation and a wasteland, and cut off anyone passing by of returning from it.’

Ezek. 35:8   ‘And I will make its mountains full of its slain; your hills and your valleys and all your ravines -- the slain of the sword shall fall among them.’

Ezek. 35:9   ‘Wastelands forever I shall make you, that your cities shall not return, and you shall know that I the Lord.’

The word in the parentheses has an extra yad.  The correction is in the brackets.

Ezek. 35:10   ‘Because of your saying, ‘The two nations and the two lands, they shall be mine, and we shall possess it, although the Lord is there,’

Ezek. 35:11   therefore, As I live, declares the Master, the Lord, so I will do according to your anger and according to your envy that you used out of your hatred toward them, and I will make Myself known among them when I judge you.’

Ezek. 35:12   ‘And you shall know that I, the Lord, hear all your blasphemies that you have spoken against the mountains of Israel saying, ‘It is a wasteland; they have been given to us for food.’

Ezek. 35:13   ‘So you have magnified yourselves over Me with your mouths as you have made your words abundant against Me -- I have heard.’

Ezek. 35:14   ‘Thus says the Master, the Lord:  While the whole earth is rejoicing, I shall make a desolation in you.’

Ezek. 35:15   ‘Like you rejoiced in the inheritance of the house of Israel, concerning when it was a desolation, so I shall do to you.  A desolation you shall be, mount Seir, together with all of Edom, all of it, and they shall know that I am the Lord.’”
